Our Story

A well-traveled collection of vintage textiles and the spontaneous purchase of a sewing machine led to Alix Verley Pietrafesa making garments during her art history studies in Scotland. She created what she wanted to wear: original, handmade garments inspired by the women in her family, the rebellious 1970’s, and the Bohemians of post-war Paris.

Alix of Bohemia formally started in London, 2012 when people began buying the jackets Alix created off her back. Over the course of a decade Alix learned her craft by designing and tailoring over 2,500 bespoke one-of-a-kind pieces.

Staying true to her hand-focused approach by working closely with artisans, Alix began making seasonal collections in 2018. Pieces are made using, and thereby supporting the continuation of old production processes.

Hand embroidery, hand weaving, hand quilting, and hand printing from India to Guatemala, Portugal to the United States, are features in her collections. We only use natural fibers so garments to get better with every wash, like a pair of jeans.

Born in New York, Alix comes from family of textile makers and artists. Today, Alix and her partner Sebastian run Alix of Bohemia together. The collections are designed in their New York studio with a focus on creativity and hand processes.
